Future Evidence, Past Record Conference

We are pleased to announce that ARMA is teaming up with the Archives Association of BC (AABC) for a joint conference on April 24, 25, and 26, 2008. The theme for this event is "Future Evidence, Past Record" and it will be held in the Harbour Towers in downtown Victoria, BC.

AABC sessions will consider whether a representative record of B.C.'s social, geographical and educational history is being acquired for study in times to come, whether particular social groups have been adequately documented during the 150 years since BC became a Crown colony, and how archivists are addressing a broad heritage mission. In addition, speakers and workshop facilitators will address practical issues relating to program funding, media preservation, and metadata in the context of the archival world.

ARMA presenters will cover a variety of topics relating to the legal and evidentiary values of records, gauging your records management program, gaining and maintaining executive support, the Canadian standard for Electronic Records as Documentary Evidence, user-friendly classification systems, and related topics.

In keeping with ARMA Vancouver Island's environmental conservation policy, we will not be providing hardcopy of ARMA seminar materials at this conference. Electronic copies of all materials are available below. Feel free to print and use what you need!

Conference Accommodation

Special room rates are available at the Harbour Towers Hotel & Suites in downtown Victoria. The hotel features spacious rooms, a pool and fitness centre, lounge, restaurant and gift shop.

Parking is available at the conference hotel, with the following rates:

The closing date for registration is April 11th, 2008. The last date for a refund is April 18th, 2008. Note that a $25 administration fee will be deducted from refunds.

An optional hardcopy registration form is available from AABC. Use either one or the other method of registering. Do not sign up online and with hardcopy.

Credit cards can only be processed through SPORG. If you wish to pay with a credit card, you cannot use the hardcopy registration.
